In praise of beige. (Yes, really.)

In praise of beige. (Yes, really.)

Many people say they loathe beige (we’re saying nothing in the interest of objectivity).

And yet, visit most homes or walk down most aisles in DIY superstores and you’ll conclude it has to be one of the most popular paint colours.

Even if it goes under the name ‘White, with a hint of something a bit yellow’.

So, why is beige an eternal favourite? And does it deserve more appreciation?

Well, unlike bold colours that can sometimes feel overwhelming, beige brings a sense of peace and tranquillity to a space. It's a warm, soothing colour that can make any room feel more welcoming and comfortable.

That’s what beige would say if it had an agent.

Put another way, it doesn’t jump out at you. It blends.

Beige is also incredibly versatile. It pairs well with almost any other colour, making it easy to incorporate into your home decor. Whether you want to create a modern, minimalist space or a cosy, traditional atmosphere, beige provides the perfect backdrop.

Beige will go with anything, pretty much.

It’s a colour that doesn’t demand attention but instead creates a subtle, sophisticated foundation that allows other elements in your space to shine.

You know, like cupboards and cabinets. Or a stunning piece of artwork.

It also doesn't show fingermarks like the brilliant white walls you see in the homes featured in design magazines.

Just call it 'fawn' and you'll maybe look more kindly on it.
