Factory chic. The industrial revolution in your lounge.

Some of this season’s best-selling storage items look like they have a job to do.
Although sophisticated and very much on-trend this furniture is undoubtedly inspired by the rugged, raw, no-nonsense environment of an old factory or warehouse.
Open a drawer and you half expect to find a hammer or some rusty pliers.
The appeal? It must be that mix of old-world craftsmanship and functional simplicity. These pieces are built to last and usually far more substantial than you would expect.
Which is no bad thing in a family home.
Sideboards made from ribbed metal. Chunky cabinets with over-specified ironwork. Lockers and tall storage that hark back to the days when workers clocked in and out. Shelving fashioned from caged metal. Everything looks like one of a kind. And won’t go unnoticed.
And because industrial furniture is, inherently, bold and sturdy, it lends itself to big contrast when you’re choosing accessories or decor to go with it.
For example, a pretty vase of wild flowers, a show-stopping picture or a lovely side light.
Unthinkable in a factory. Wonderful in your lounge.
